The 2026 grant amounts
The amount changed mid-year. The table shows both figures:

| Period | Insured / pensioner | Uninsured family member |
|---|---|---|
| 1 January – 29 March 2026 | 8,620 RON | 4,310 RON |
| From 30 March 2026 | 9,192 RON | 4,596 RON |
What changed from 30 March 2026
From 30 March 2026, the grant for an insured worker or pensioner rose to 9,192 RON, and the grant for an uninsured family member rose to 4,596 RON.
The amount that applies is always the one in force on the date of death. For a death before 30 March, the earlier figure applies; for any death from 30 March onward, the higher figure applies.
Why the amount changes each year
The funeral grant tracks the average gross monthly salary used to build the state social insurance budget. By law it cannot be lower than that salary.
For 2026, that salary is 9,192 RON, which is why the grant for an insured person's death equals that figure.
Who gets the half amount
When an uninsured family member of an insured person or pensioner dies — a stay-at-home spouse, a dependent child — the grant is half: 4,596 RON in 2026.
If the deceased had no connection to the Romanian social insurance system at all, different rules apply — see the guide on funeral aid for uninsured persons.
How to claim in 2026
File at the territorial pension house (casa de pensii) that covered the deceased, with a standard application and supporting documents — death certificate, your ID, proof of relationship, and proof of funeral costs.
Payment is made within 3 business days. The right to claim runs for 3 years from the date on the death certificate.

How much of the funeral cost does the grant cover
The 9,192 RON grant covers a significant share of a modest funeral. Our Essential Package is designed to fit within it.
