Why the EU closed the ODR platform
The platform ran from 2016 and let consumers open online disputes with traders across the EU. In practice it was rarely used: most complaints never received a reply from traders, and only a few hundred cases per year were actually resolved across the entire Union.
Regulation (EU) 2024/3228 repealed the regulation that had created it. The platform went offline on 20 July 2025 and all stored data was permanently deleted. Traders are no longer required to link to it — old references must be removed from websites.
Regulation (EU) 2024/3228 — EUR-LexWhat to use instead in 2026
- SAL — Alternative Dispute Resolution through the competent Romanian entity: free for consumers, decision within 90 days
- ANPC — official complaint to the Romanian National Authority for Consumer Protection
- ECC Romania — the European Consumer Centre, for disputes with traders in another EU country (free service)
- Court — the standard route if amicable procedures fail
