FIRST 4 STEPS · IN ORDER

What to do now, in the first hours

The death of a loved one doesn't require hasty action in the first minutes. Sit down, call a close relative, read the 4 steps below. Then call us — we take over everything that follows: transport, formalities, ceremony.

  1. 1

    Call doctor or 112

For death confirmation. At home — family doctor or SMURD emergency. At hospital — doctor on duty confirms automatically.

  2. 2

    Call us

We answer in under a minute, day and night. Our team arrives in 60-90 minutes for pickup.

  3. 3

    Don't move the body

Wait for authorized personnel. Transport by personal car is illegal (Romanian Law 102/2014).

  4. 4

    Gather documents

Deceased's ID, pension stub (for funeral aid), ID of family member who signs.

COMPARISON · TRADITIONAL VS CREMATION

Burial or cremation — which fits you?

Two major options. Cremation is 30–40% cheaper but not accepted by Orthodox Church. Traditional burial remains preferred in Romania, but long-term costs (burial plot, monument) are significantly higher.

OPTION 1

Traditional burial

Complete Orthodox ceremony with casket, wake, church service, cemetery burial, memorial meal. Requires burial plot and monument.

OPTION 2

Cremation

Procedure at authorized crematorium. 30–40% cheaper. Much simpler repatriation.

Package details
FeatureBurialCremation
Total package cost7,400 RON4,900 RON
Process duration2–3 days5–7 days
Burial plot needed
New burial plot cost15,000–30,000 RON
Funeral monument (after 40 days)1,500–25,000 RON

Simpler repatriation

More families now choose cremation — fewer long-term costs, no burial plot issues. Traditional Orthodox families stick with burial (Romanian Orthodox Church doesn't accept cremation).

Administrative procedures step by step

FREQUENT QUESTIONS

What families ask most often

  • What does a full-service funeral home actually do for me?

Everything between the moment of death and the moment the ceremony ends, under one roof. That means: picking up the deceased, transport, the embalming and dressing, the casket or urn, all the civil registry and health-authority paperwork, the 9,192 RON state aid claim with CNPP, talking to the priest and the cemetery or crematorium, the ceremony itself, the wreaths, and the memorial meal. You deal with one team — us — not five different vendors.

  • How long does organising a funeral take?

Two or three days on average. Day one: medical certificate, we collect the deceased. Day two: civil death certificate, health clearance, embalming and dressing, the wake. Day three: church service, burial or cremation, the memorial meal. We can speed it up if family is arriving and you've only got 48 hours, or stretch it out if relatives are flying in from abroad.

  • How much does a Romanian funeral cost in 2026?

Between 3,000 and 15,000 RON, depending on what you choose. Our most basic package starts at 4,900 RON and fits inside the 9,192 RON state funeral aid — meaning your family pays nothing out of pocket. A premium package, with hardwood casket and a larger memorial meal, can go above 15,000 RON.

  • What is the Romanian state funeral aid (ajutor de înmormântare) in 2026?

Starting 2026-03-30, the Romanian National Pension House (CNPP) pays 9,192 RON to cover funeral costs for insured workers or retirees. For an uninsured family member of a retiree (like a stay-at-home spouse), it's half — 4,596 RON. We file the claim for you and the money lands with CNPP within 3 business days of submission.

  • Which papers do I need to find right after a death?

In the first day: the doctor's death confirmation (the hospital or family doctor hands you this), the deceased's national ID, and if they were retired, the pension stub. Everything else — civil death certificate, sanitary clearance, the CNPP claim — we file ourselves once you sign one power of attorney.

  • Can the state funeral aid actually pay for the whole funeral?

Yes — for our Essential package (4,900 RON) and Traditional package, the 9,192 RON aid fully covers the bill. You assign the right to receive the aid to us, we claim it from CNPP, deduct it from the invoice. Your family pays zero. We designed those two packages specifically to sit inside the aid amount.

  • How much does cremation cost in Romania?

The crematorium itself charges around 900 RON for an adult (Vitan-Bârzești in Bucharest, 2025–26 prices). Our full cremation package — pickup, transport to the crematorium, embalming, suitable casket, the crematorium fee itself, the urn — starts at 4,900 RON. It's typically 30–40% cheaper than a traditional burial because you skip the burial plot and the monument.

  • How long does it take to bring someone home from abroad?

Depends on where they are. From Italy or Spain, 3–5 days. From Germany, 4–7. From the UK, 5–7 (Brexit added a layer). From the US or Canada, 7–14 days. The clock includes embalming, the mortuary passport stamped by the Romanian consulate, the flight, and the pickup here. We chase everyone on your behalf — consulate, airline, local funeral home there.

  • What do I do first if my parent dies at home?

Call 112 or their family doctor — they'll come confirm the death and issue the medical certificate. Then call us. Don't move the body or try to clean anything yourself. Find the deceased's ID and pension stub if you can. We arrive within 60–90 minutes and handle everything from that point.
