What is a burial plot concession?
A burial plot is the land within a cemetery that the family receives the right to use for burial and ongoing care of the grave. It is not, as a rule, an ownership — it is a concession, a right of use granted by the cemetery administration.
The concession is granted for a period set by each cemetery's own regulations. At the end of the term it can usually be renewed. This is where the burial takes place and, in time, where the funeral monument is erected.

What are the steps to get a plot?
Obtaining a burial plot follows a few straightforward steps, which we can carry out on the family's behalf under a simple power of attorney:
- Application to the administrația cimitirului (cemetery administration) of the chosen cemetery
- Verification of plot availability at that cemetery
- Signing the concession contract
- Payment of the concession fee and the annual maintenance fee
- Receipt of the concession deed — proof of the right to the plot
What documents are required?
The exact documents differ slightly from one cemetery to another, but as a rule they are few. We prepare them together:
- Identity document of the applicant
- The cemetery's standard application form
- Death certificate — when the concession is sought for an immediate burial
- Proof of fee payment

What types of concession are available?
Cemeteries grant concessions for different durations. The table below shows the common variants; which is available depends on each cemetery's regulations.
| Type | What it means |
|---|---|
| Fixed-term concession | Right of use for a set number of years, renewable at the end of the term |
| Long-term concession | Extended period, where the cemetery's regulations permit it |
| Free allocation | For specific categories (e.g. war veterans), subject to plot availability |
How much does a burial plot cost?
The cost of a new burial plot varies considerably depending on the cemetery, city, and location within the cemetery. As a general guide, a new plot can cost between 3,000 and 30,000 lei.
On top of the concession fee, an annual maintenance fee is payable, and separately, the monument. For an estimate of the total cost of a funeral, see our pricing page.
What if the family already has a plot?
If a family burial plot already exists, no new concession is needed. The burial is scheduled there with the agreement of the administration.
An existing plot can accommodate multiple burials over time, through superposition or after exhumation of remains. Details about this process are on our exhumation and disinterment page.
