Burial plot prices and concession

A new burial plot costs, approximately, between 3,000 and 30,000 lei, depending on the cemetery, city, and zone. The price is a concession fee set by the cemetery administration or the local council — not by us. An annual maintenance fee and, separately, a monument are added on top. Costs vary enormously from one locality to another, so the figures below are indicative only.

What you pay for a burial plot

The cost of a burial plot is not a single price but a sum of components. The largest part is the concession fee — the right of use over the plot — set by the cemetery administration or the local council.

On top of this comes an annual maintenance fee and, separately, a monument. We help you with obtaining the plot and the paperwork, but the concession fee is paid directly to the cemetery.

Why prices vary so much

The difference comes from the locality and the zone within the cemetery. A plot in a village costs far less than one in a central Bucharest cemetery. Position within the cemetery also matters — plots along main avenues are more expensive.

There is therefore no national price. The figures below are indicative; the exact price must be confirmed with the chosen cemetery administration.

What determines the price

The locality matters most: the larger the city and the more in-demand the cemetery, the higher the concession fee. In Bucharest, central cemeteries have the highest prices and the fewest available plots.

The zone within the cemetery, the size of the plot (single or double), and the duration of the concession also matter. A plot for a crypt or a vault requires more space and therefore a higher fee.

More affordable alternatives

If a new burial plot is beyond budget, there are alternatives. A columbarium niche, for an urn after cremation, is generally far more affordable and does not require a monument.

For families wanting a shared resting place, a crypt used across multiple generations spreads the cost over time. If the family already has a plot, no new concession is needed.

The maintenance fee

In addition to the concession, almost all cemeteries charge an annual maintenance fee covering shared spaces — paths, water supply, security. It is renewed each year.

Non-payment over several years can lead, according to the cemetery's regulations, to the plot being declared abandoned. Details of what the fee covers are on the plot maintenance page.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Questions about prices

  • How much does a burial plot cost in 2026?

Approximately between 3,000 and 30,000 lei, depending on the cemetery, city, and zone. In a village it costs far less than in a central Bucharest cemetery. The exact price is set by the cemetery administration.

  • Who sets the concession price?

The cemetery administration or the local council, not the funeral home. There is therefore no national price. The fee is paid directly to the cemetery; we help you with the paperwork and the liaison with the administration.

  • Why do prices vary so much?

Because of the locality and the zone within the cemetery. Large cities and central cemeteries have the highest prices and the fewest plots. Position within the cemetery and plot size also play a role.

  • What is added to the concession fee?

An annual maintenance fee for shared spaces, and, separately, a funeral monument. If a crypt or vault is built, those costs are also added.

  • Are there cheaper alternatives to a burial plot?

Yes. A columbarium niche, for an urn after cremation, is generally far more affordable than a new burial plot and does not require a monument. See the columbarium page.

  • Is it a one-time payment or annual?

The concession is paid when the plot is obtained, for a period set by the regulations, with the option to renew. Separately, the maintenance fee is paid annually to the cemetery administration.

  • What happens if I don't pay the maintenance fee?

Failure to pay for several years and leaving the grave in a neglected state can lead, under the cemetery's regulations, to the plot being declared abandoned and reallocated. Paying on time preserves it.

  • Do your prices include VAT?

Our support services are invoiced without VAT, as the company is not a VAT payer. The concession fee and maintenance fee are paid directly to the cemetery according to its own rates.

  • If I already have a plot, do I pay a concession fee?

No. For an existing family burial plot, burial takes place there without a new concession. Only any opening fee and the annual maintenance fee apply.

  • Can you help me obtain a burial plot?

Yes. We handle the application to the cemetery, the liaison with the administration, and the concession paperwork. See the full steps on the page about obtaining a burial plot.
