Funeral monument prices

A funeral monument costs between 1,500 and 25,000 lei in 2026, depending on type, material, and dimensions. A simple granite cross starts at 1,500 lei; a family vault can reach 25,000 lei.

Why monument prices vary

Monument pricing starts with type and material. A simple cross costs far less than a fully clad monument or a vault. Granite is more affordable and more durable than marble.

Dimensions, engraving, and plot cladding also matter. A vault, being a structure for multiple people, is the most expensive option. The full range by type is in the table below.

When is the monument installed

The monument is typically installed a few months after the funeral, once the soil over the grave has settled. Until then, a temporary wooden cross is used.

The cost of the monument is separate from the funeral and is planned in advance. For the plot itself, see the pages on burial plots.

What determines the price

Monument type is the main factor. A simple cross costs the least; a fully clad monument or a vault costs several times more because it requires more material and labour.

Material matters equally. Granite is more affordable and more resistant; marble has an elegant appearance but is more expensive and requires maintenance. Engraving, plot cladding, and accessories all add to the price.

Installation at the cemetery is included, but the burial plot concession is obtained separately. Also check the cemetery regulations for permitted dimensions.

How to choose a monument by budget

For a limited budget, a simple granite cross or a basic monument gives the site a dignified appearance. Grey granite is the most affordable and holds up for decades without maintenance.

For a long-term family plot, a fully clad monument or a vault are the durable solutions. For two people, a double monument in marble or granite combines both inscriptions.

We will give you a clear quote with the exact price of the work before we begin. Installation is scheduled once the stone is ready.

Additional costs associated with the monument

Beyond the monument itself, there are sometimes additional costs. A temporary wooden cross, installed immediately after the funeral, costs little and holds the place until the permanent monument arrives.

Engraving a new inscription on an existing monument for a subsequent family burial is priced separately. The same applies to cleaning or refurbishing an older monument.

For older plots, groundwork may be needed before installation. We will let you know in advance if the job requires it, so the final price is clear.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Questions about prices

  • How much does the cheapest monument cost?

The most affordable monument is a simple granite cross, from 1,500 lei. A plinth with vase starts at 800 lei, and a photo-ceramic portrait from 300 lei.

  • How much does a vault cost?

A vault costs between 15,000 and 25,000 lei, depending on dimensions and capacity. It is a structure for multiple people, built from reinforced concrete with stone cladding.

  • Is granite or marble cheaper?

Granite is generally more affordable and more durable. Marble has an elegant look but costs more and requires periodic maintenance.

  • When is the monument installed after the funeral?

Usually a few months later, once the soil over the grave has settled. A temporary wooden cross is used in the meantime. The cost is separate from the funeral.

  • Does the price include installation?

Yes. The approximate price includes the stone, engraving, and installation at the cemetery. The burial plot concession and cemetery permits are obtained separately.

  • How long does it take to make a monument?

A standard monument is installed in 1–3 days once the stone is ready. A vault takes several weeks, as it is a construction project.

  • Do I need a permit for installation?

Yes. Installing a monument requires the burial plot concession and approval from the cemetery administration. We will guide you through this process.

  • Can I add an inscription to an existing monument?

Yes. Engraving a new inscription or applying a photo-ceramic portrait to an existing monument can be done separately, on request. The price depends on the work involved.

  • Can the monument be paid for in instalments?

For larger jobs, such as a full monument or a vault, payment can be spread out — typically a deposit and the balance on completion, under a written agreement. We discuss the terms at the quote stage.

  • How long does a granite monument last?

A granite monument withstands decades of weather without losing colour or gloss. It is the most durable funerary material and requires minimal maintenance.

  • Can I choose the monument design myself?

Yes. We will show you models and materials, and you choose the shape, stone, inscription, and accessories. We also produce custom designs based on an agreed sketch.

  • Do monument prices include VAT?

The displayed prices are final. The company is not a VAT payer, so no percentage is added on top of the quote price. We give you the exact amount before work begins.

  • Can I restore an old monument instead of buying a new one?

Yes. Cleaning, re-finishing the stone, engraving a new inscription, or replacing a panel can all be done separately. It costs less than a new monument and extends the life of the existing one.
