A brief history
The Cenușa Crematorium was Romania's first crematorium, opened in 1928. For decades it operated as Bucharest's only crematorium. It ended its cremation activity in 2002.

What happened to the niches and urns
The Cenușa columbarium continued to serve its existing niches even after cremations stopped. For the current status of a niche or urn at Cenușa, families should contact the cemeteries administration. We can help with the steps and guidance, on request.
Where cremations happen today
Cremations in Bucharest take place at the Vitan-Bârzești crematorium, the only active authorised crematorium in the capital. The full procedure — required documents, duration, costs — is detailed on the cremation service page.
We organise everything: collecting the deceased, the paperwork, scheduling at the crematorium, and handing the urn to the family. For a comparison between cremation and burial, see the cremation vs. burial guide.
