Funeral for pensioners, paid via the pension slip

For a pensioner, the funeral allowance (9,192 RON in 2026) can cover the funeral package in full or in part. With the pension slip as proof and an assignment-of-rights request, the Pension House transfers the sum directly. The family does not pay out of pocket first for the package that falls within the allowance.

How payment via the pension slip works

The pension slip proves the deceased held pensioner status. Together with the death certificate and the applicant's ID document, it completes the funeral allowance claim file submitted to the Pension House.

Through an assignment-of-rights request, the sum is transferred directly to the funeral home within a few working days. You do not pay first and wait to be reimbursed.

How the pension-slip assignment works, step by step

  1. 1

    Call us

Contact us immediately after the death. We collect the deceased and begin the paperwork — you do not need to travel anywhere.

  2. 2

    We prepare the file together

We draw up the funeral allowance application and the assignment-of-rights request. You will need: the deceased's pension slip (or a certificate from the CNPP), your own ID document, and the death certificate — which we obtain on your behalf.

  3. 3

We submit the claim to the Pension House

We lodge the file at the County Pension House or directly at the CNPP, depending on the pensioner's county of domicile.

  4. 4

    The CNPP transfers the allowance

Within a few working days of a complete file being submitted, the Pension House transfers 9,192 RON directly to the funeral home's account, on the basis of the assignment-of-rights request.

  5. 5

The family pays only the difference, if any

For the Essential and Traditional packages, the gap relative to the allowance is small or non-existent. We tell you the exact figure on your very first call.

Coverage breakdown per package

The table below shows, for each package, how much is covered by the state allowance and how much — if anything — remains for the family to pay. All figures are calculated from the current price schedule and the legal allowance amount.

Documents required from the pensioner's estate

  • The deceased's pension slip (or a certificate from the Pension House).
  • The death certificate — we obtain this on the family's behalf.
  • The ID document of the person submitting the application.
  • The funeral allowance application — we complete this together with you.
  • The assignment-of-rights request — we prepare it; the family signs.

The last uncollected pension

In addition to the funeral allowance, the person who bore the funeral costs is entitled by law to collect the pension that was due and not yet paid for the month in which the death occurred. We explain exactly which documents are needed and walk you through the procedure.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Frequently asked questions

  • Do I need to pay upfront if I use the pension slip?

No — not for the package that falls within the allowance. Through the assignment of rights, the Pension House pays the funeral home directly. We tell you on your very first call which package qualifies and what the difference is, if any.

  • How long does it take for the allowance to be transferred when using the pension slip?

The file is submitted after the death. The transfer typically takes a few working days. Because we receive the payment directly through the assignment of rights, you do not need to wait for the money before the funeral can proceed.

  • Can I also collect the last uncollected pension?

Yes. The person who bore the funeral costs may collect the pension due for the month of death, on the basis of the pension slip and supporting documents. We guide you through the procedure.

  • Which package is recommended for a pensioner?

The Essential package (4,900 RON) falls entirely within the 9,192 RON allowance. The Traditional package (7,400 RON) adds a higher-quality coffin and accessories; the difference relative to the allowance is modest and we state it clearly before any commitment.

  • What happens if the allowance does not cover the full package?

The difference is calculated precisely and communicated on your first call. For packages that exceed the allowance, the family pays only the gap — the rest is covered through the assignment of rights.

  • What if the pension was small, or the pensioner was on an invalidity pension?

The funeral allowance does not depend on the size of the pension. It is granted for every pensioner category — old-age, invalidity, and survivor. The amount is the same: 9,192 RON in 2026, as set by the National Pension House (CNPP).

  • I have lost the pension slip. Can we manage without it?

Yes. The pension slip is useful as proof, but it is not indispensable if a pensioner certificate can be obtained from the County Pension House, or if the deceased appears in the CNPP information system. We help you identify the right alternative.

  • The pensioner died without family. Who can submit the allowance claim?

Anyone who bore the funeral costs may submit the claim — there is no requirement to be a direct relative. In such cases, the costs must be evidenced with the funeral contract and receipts. We explain the full procedure.
