How much is the funeral allowance in 2026?

The funeral allowance stands at 9,192 RON for insured persons and pensioners, and 4,596 RON for uninsured persons, according to the National Pension House (CNPP). The current amounts took effect on 30 March 2026, under Law 44/2026.

It is paid to the person who bears the funeral costs — typically a family member — upon submitting a claim together with the death documents.

Who qualifies for full reimbursement?

The full amount of 9,192 RON applies when the deceased was an insured person or a pensioner. A reduced amount is available in certain situations:

• Active insured person (employee, sole trader (PFA), self-employed paying social-security contributions (CAS)) — 9,192 RON.
• Pensioner (any category: old-age, disability, survivor) — 9,192 RON.
• Unemployed person receiving benefit — 9,192 RON.
• Uninsured family member of an insured person — 4,596 RON.
• Person with no form of social insurance — not entitled to an allowance from the CNPP; local support may be available through the town hall under Law 196/2016.

How the assignment of rights works — no money upfront

The family signs a request assigning their allowance rights to us. On that basis, the Pension House transfers the amount directly to the funeral home within a few working days. There is no need to pay first and claim back later — we receive the allowance on your behalf.
